Training & Education

Information about our training & education programs

At the Institute of Neon Arts, we are passionate about preserving and passing down the time-honored craft of neon signmaking to a new generation of makers. As a second-generation sign craftsman with over 40 years of hands-on experience in the trade, I’ve had the honor of restoring, designing, and building neon signs across the country. I also ran the largest electrical sign company in Southern Oregon and Northern California, where I trained crews, completed major installations, and worked on countless historical restorations. Now, through INA, it’s time to give back and share what I’ve learned.

Upon our return to the United States, we will launch a comprehensive, hands-on training program designed for individuals with a genuine interest in learning the trade. This tiered program will offer structured learning for all experience levels—starting with foundational courses for beginners, progressing to intermediate sessions for those with some glass experience, and concluding with advanced classes for seasoned neon artists looking to refine their skills.

In addition to traditional neon glass bending and processing, students will receive training in critical aspects of sign restoration and fabrication, including electrical theory, high-voltage safety, transformer installation, welding and metalwork, patina application, and weathered paint techniques. Whether you're interested in crafting new signs, restoring vintage treasures, or preserving a nearly lost American art form, this program will give you the tools, knowledge, and confidence to work like the craftsmen of old.

Course lengths, tuition, and funding opportunities are currently being finalized and will be announced soon.
